Nordic traditionals by former Noma-chefs

Barr

Set in an old warehouse by the water, Barr reimagines Nordic comfort food with depth and precision. The menu leans rustic – pork schnitzel, grilled cabbage – but with the sharp edge of ex-Noma minds. Beer pairings are exceptional, the mood warmly minimal.

Unique Danish lunch

Ibens Smørrebrød

Possibly Denmark’s smallest restaurant – and one of the most charming. Iben prepares traditional smørrebrød with care and warmth, served at just a few tables near Klosteret. Open for weekday lunch only. Mention Klosteret for a little surprise.

The most interesting

Alchemist

More than a restaurant, Alchemist is a total experience – part performance, part philosophy, part fine dining. With two Michelin stars and 50+ courses, Rasmus Munk redefines what a meal can be. Provocative, unforgettable, and unlike anything else in the world.

Traditional Danish

Restaurant Møntergade

A polished take on the classic Danish lunch tradition, served in elegant surroundings just steps from Kongens Nytorv. Expect rye bread, herring, tartar and schnapps – all prepared with precision and pride. Tradition here is not nostalgic, but elevated.

My favourite Italian

Trattoria Fiat

Warm, lively and reliably excellent, Fiat is where Klosteret goes for pasta and red wine in the heart of the city. The atmosphere is relaxed but polished, the menu classic with seasonal specials. Don’t miss the tartufo tagliatelle when truffles from Alba are in season.

Danish cuisine the old fashioned way

Schønnemann

A Copenhagen institution since 1877, Schønnemann serves smørrebrød the old-fashioned way – generous, precise and with cold beer in the right glass. Expect classics like fried herring, liver pâté and aquavit, all in a warm, wood-panelled room filled with locals at lunch.

Truly the best seafood

Silberbauers Bistro

A French-inspired seafood bistro in Nørrebro with a focus on freshness, fire and unfussy plating. Expect whole grilled fish, mussels in white wine and oysters at the bar. It’s noisy, natural and full of energy – the kind of place you wish were your local.
